Purpose

  • Evaluate the Piriformis muscle as a cause of hip or buttocks pain

Description

  • The patient lays on the unaffected side in the lateral decubitus position
  • They flex their affected hip up and abduct against gravity
  • Positive test
    • Reproduction of the patient's typical buttock pain
    • Or weakness, or paresthesia on the affected side
