Purpose

The Elbow Valgus Stress Test
Demonstration of the elbow valgus stress test

Description

  • The patient can be supine, sitting, or in the standing
  • Elbow is held in 20° flexion, one hand supporting the elbow with the humerus somewhat externally rotated
  • The other on forearm applying valgus stress
  • Positive test
    • Pain or laxity compared to the unaffected arm

Anterior Oblique Ligament

    • Sensitivity: 66%
    • Specificity: 60%
