Elbow Valgus Stress Test

Purpose
- Assess integrity of elbow Ulnar Collateral Ligament, sometimes termed elbow MCL
Description
- The patient can be supine, sitting, or in the standing
- Elbow is held in 20° flexion, one hand supporting the elbow with the humerus somewhat externally rotated
- The other on forearm applying valgus stress
- Positive test
- Pain or laxity compared to the unaffected arm
Pathology
- Ulnar Collateral Ligament Injury
- Proximal Radius Fracture
- Terrible Triad of Elbow
- Little League Elbow
Evidence
- Timmerman et al[1]
- Sensitivity: 66%
- Specificity: 60%
