• Part of of the Gluteal Muscle Group

Origin

• Between the iliac crest and gluteal line underneath the Gluteus Maximus

Insertion

• Oblique ridge on the lateral Greater Trochanter

Actions

• Abduction of the thigh
• Medial (internal) rotation of the thigh
• Prevents hip drop of the contralateral side
• Similar action to that of the Gluteus Minimus

Vascular Supply

• Superior Gluteal Artery

Innervation

• Superior Gluteal Nerve
