Joint Line Tenderness of the Knee

Purpose

Demonstration of the Joint Line Test[1]

Description

  • The patient is either laying supine or seated with knee flexed to 90°
  • Identify the joint space using the femoral condyle, tibial plateau and patellar tendon
  • Start anteriorly along the joint line and work your way posterior
  • This test should be performed on both the medial and lateral joint space
  • Positive test is pain during palpation
