Squat Test

Purpose

  • Evaluate the cause of knee pain

Description

  • The patient is asked to slowly perform several squats to 90°
  • Positive Test
    • Reproduction of the patients pain

Variation for Meniscal Pathology

  • The patient performs a full squat with the legs externally rotated
  • They then repeat that with the legs internally rotated
  • Positive test
    • Posteromedial joint line pain with external rotation suggests medial meniscus
    • Posterolateral joint line pain with internal rotation suggests lateral meniscus
