Spinal Levels

  • L4 - S1 lumbosacral nerve roots

Anatomic Course

  • The nerve runs between the gluteus medius and minimus

Clinical Significance

  • Injury to this nerve can occur during hip surgery
  • can be injured when these muscles are split to approach the hip
  • Leading to weakness in hip abduction/ Trendelenburg gait
