  • Sural Nerve Neurodynamic Test

Purpose

  • Evaluate the Sural Nerve as the cause of the patients symptoms

Description

  • The patient is supine
  • The patient’s leg is supported and the foot is held in dorsiflexion and inversion
  • The leg is then passively raised into hip flexion.
  • This is usually felt in the posterolateral calf and/or posterolateral ankle
  • Positive test
    • Reproduce the pain or sensation
    • Feels different to the uninvolved side
    • Made worse by adding a ‘sensitiser’ movement such as hip adduction, hip internal rotation or cervical flexion
