Purpose
- Evaluate the Sural Nerve as the cause of the patients symptoms
Description
- The patient is supine
- The patient’s leg is supported and the foot is held in dorsiflexion and inversion
- The leg is then passively raised into hip flexion.
- This is usually felt in the posterolateral calf and/or posterolateral ankle
- Positive test
- Reproduce the pain or sensation
- Feels different to the uninvolved side
- Made worse by adding a ‘sensitiser’ movement such as hip adduction, hip internal rotation or cervical flexion
