Purpose
- A sign suggesting neuropathy of the palmer interosseus muscle
Description
- The patient is seated or standing
- Examiner evaluates affected hand
- A positive sign is
- Slightly greater abduction of the fifth digit, due to paralysis of the abducting palmar interosseous muscle
- There is also unopposed action of the radial innervated extensor muscles (digiti minimi, digitorum communis )
Pathology
- Ulnar Nerve Injuries including:
- Cervical Myelopathy
- Upper Motor Neuron Disease
