General

Medial Meniscus

  • Attachments to the medial tibial condyle at:
    • Posterior horn attached via the posterior meniscotibial ligament
    • Midportion/corpus via the meniscotibial portion of the deep medial collateral ligament
  • Originate immediately inferior to the edge of the articular cartilage of the tibial plateau
  • Additional posteromedial attachments

Lateral Meniscus

Function

  • Connects part of the outside, inferior edge of the medial and lateral meniscus to the joint capsule
  • Role in rotatory knee stability and anterior tibial translation[4]

MRI Features

  • Visible on MRI as hypointense structures
