Suprascapular Nerve
(Redirected from Medial suprascapular nerve)

Anatomic Course
- Originates from upper trunk of Brachial Plexus[2]
- Contributions from 5th, 6th cervical nerve roots
- Sometimes contribution from 4th
- Courses posteriorly through the cervical triangle and clavicle
- Across the superior border of the scapula and into the Suprascapular Notch
- Maintained in position of notch by transverse scapular ligament
- From there, it moves down to the Spinoglenoid Notch
- Maintained in position by the spinoglenoid ligament
Actions
- Motor Innervation
- Sensory innervation still a matter of debate among anatomists
- One study reports 70% of sensory innervation of Glenohumeral Joint[3]
- Coracoclavicular, coracohumeral ligaments, AC joint, subacromial bursa[4]
- Note, it does not innervate Teres Minor
