Suprascapular Nerve

Suprascapular nerve and its branches of the left shoulder[1]

Anatomic Course

  • Originates from upper trunk of Brachial Plexus[2]
    • Contributions from 5th, 6th cervical nerve roots
    • Sometimes contribution from 4th
  • Courses posteriorly through the cervical triangle and clavicle
  • Across the superior border of the scapula and into the Suprascapular Notch
    • Maintained in position of notch by transverse scapular ligament
  • From there, it moves down to the Spinoglenoid Notch
    • Maintained in position by the spinoglenoid ligament
