Rectus Femoris Contracture Test

Purpose

- Evaluate the tone of the Rectus Femoris and Hip Flexor muscles
Description
- The patient is supine on the examination table
- Patient flexes unaffected hip with knee to chest (similar to the Thomas Test)
- Observe for contralateral hip/leg raising, contralateral knee extension
- Positive test
- Affected knee extends off of table
- indicating rectus femoris tightness, contracture
Pathology
- Rectus Femoris Spascticity
- Iliopsoas Tightness, associated with Hip Flexor Tendonitis
