Purpose

  • To evaluate the hip joint for causes of the patients pain

Description

  • The patient lies in the lateral decubitus position
  • Affected hip is placed upward
  • The hip is abducted 30-45 degrees, extended and externally rotated
  • An anteriorly directed force is applied to the greater trochanter
  • Positive test
    • Anterior hip pain
