Anterior Shuck Test of the Hip

  • Anterior Shuck Test of the Hip
  • Anterior Apprehension Test

Purpose

  • Evaluate for anterior instability of the hip

Description

  • The patient is prone
  • The affected limb is placed in a "reverse figure of four"
  • Position: hip abduction, external rotation and knee flexion
  • Anteriorly directed force is applied at the posterior aspect of the greater trochanter
  • Positive test
    • Anterior hip pain or apprehension
