Purpose
- Used to help differentiate between vascular and neurogenic causes of leg pain (intermittent claudication)
Description
- The patient is seated on the bicycle, peddling in an upright position
- They then can alternate to the forward leaning position
- Positive for vascular etiology
- Claudication in both positions
- Positive for spinal etiology
- Reproduced while upright, relieved while leaning forward
- Both submaximal and maximal effort may be used
