Purpose

  • Evaluate the integrity of the central slip in patients with extensor tendon injuries to the hand

Description

  • The patient is seated
  • The PIPJ is passively extended and the patient is asked to flex the DIPJ
  • If the extensor mechanism is intact, the patient will be able to flex the DIPJ
  • If the patient has a central slip injury, the patient will be unable to flex the DIPJ
