Purpose
- To determine the presence of a joint effusion in the knee
Description
- The patient is supine
- Examiner stroked upwards with the edge of the hand on the medial side of the knee to drain the fluid proximal to the patella.
- Examiner then proceeded to push the fluid inferiorly into the lateral aspect of the knee
- Positive test
- Observed fluid moving towards the medial recess of the knee
