Purpose

• To determine the presence of a joint effusion in the knee

---

Description

• The patient is supine
• Examiner stroked upwards with the edge of the hand on the medial side of the knee to drain the fluid proximal to the patella.
• Examiner then proceeded to push the fluid inferiorly into the lateral aspect of the knee
• Positive test
  • Observed fluid moving towards the medial recess of the knee
