General

• One of the many bursae of the knee
• Located in the posteromedial aspect of the knee, at the medial aspect of the semimembranosus tendon
• When fluid filled, it has a unique "inverted U" shape

Function

• Reduces the friction of the semimembranosus muscle moving over the medial condyle of the femur and the joint capsule of the knee
