Calcaneofibular Ligament

Name

  • Calcaneofibular Ligament
  • CFL

Anatomic Description

  • Extracapsular round cord
  • Measures 20-25 mm in length, 6-8 mm in width
  • Origin: distal to ATFL on the top of the lateral malleolus
  • Insertion: posteroinferiorly, medially inserts on the lateral surface of the calcaneus
  • Lies deep to the peroneal tendons[2]

Radiographic Appearance

  • MRI[3]
    • Often only partially imaged on coronal and axial images
    • PD: uniformly low signal

Innervation

  • Needs to be updated
