Purpose

• Clinical exxam finding which can suggest an injury to the posterior cruciate ligament

Description

• The patient can be in any position
  • Optimal position is supine, knees and hips flexed
  • Feet flat on table
• Observe the anterior knee and compare to the other
• Positive sign
  • Loss of the normal visualization of the anteromedial and lateral prominences of the tibial plateau beneath the femoral condyles
  • Inability to palpate the tibial plateaus

Modification

• Examiner holds the patients leg in the air at the ankle
