  • Digital Pressure Test

Purpose

  • To evaluate for the presence of an abscess in a suspected paronychia

Description

  • Provider asks the patient to oppose the thumb and affected finger
  • Thereby applying light pressure over the distal volar aspect of the affected digit
  • Positive test
    • A well demarcated area of blanching over the abscess
