Duck Walk Test

Demonstration of the duck walk test[1]
  • Duck Walk Test

Purpose

  • Evaluate the medial/lateral meniscus as a cause of the patients knee pain
  • First described by Childress in 1957[2]

Description

  • The patient starts standing
  • Ask them to squat down
  • From there have them waddle forward
  • Positive test
    • Patient unable to perform due to pain
    • Pain in the duck walk position

  • Van der Post et al[3]
    • Sensitivity: 71%
    • Specificity: 39%
