Purpose
- Determine the postoperative swelling of the operated joint preoperatively and at 24 and 48 h postoperatively
- Describes an examination technique for determining the circumference of the upper ankle joint
Description
- The ankle is held in a neutral position at approximately 90°
- Tape measure is placed around the 20° flexed upper ankle joint in a figure of eight
- Record the measurement and compare to the unaffected limb
- Positive test
- Measurement is greater in the affected limb than unaffected limb
Pathology
- Postoperative ankle swelling/edema
