Purpose


Description

  • The patient is asked to perform a sustained isometric quadriceps contraction
  • The examiner attempts to move the patella mediolaterally
  • The test is repeated on the contralateral patella for comparison
  • Normal test
    • Patella that remains immobile or fixed during contraction suggests an intact tendon
  • Abnormal test
    • Mobile patella indicates a rupture
