Purpose


Description

  • The patient is in the supine position.
  • With the ankle plantarflexed, evaluate full range of motion of the first metatarsophalangeal joint
  • Move the ankle into dorsiflexion by applying pressure to the metatarsal heads
  • Attempt to dorsiflflex the first metatarsophalangeal joint
  • Positive test
    • Inability to dorsiflex the first MTPJ

Pathology

  • Stenosing Tenosynovitis (Dancer's Tendonitis)
  • Trigger Toe (Hallux Saltans)
