Purpose
- Evaluate the Flexor Hallucis Longus as the cause of the patients foot or toe pain
Description
- The patient is in the supine position.
- With the ankle plantarflexed, evaluate full range of motion of the first metatarsophalangeal joint
- Move the ankle into dorsiflexion by applying pressure to the metatarsal heads
- Attempt to dorsiflflex the first metatarsophalangeal joint
- Positive test
- Inability to dorsiflex the first MTPJ
Pathology
- Stenosing Tenosynovitis (Dancer's Tendonitis)
- Trigger Toe (Hallux Saltans)
