Purpose

  • Helps differentiate trochanteric impingement from other sources of hip pain[2]

Description

  • The patient is in the lateral cubitus position, affected hip up
  • Passively abduct the symptomatic hip in extension
    • Bring from slight abduction into hyperabducted position
  • Positive test
    • Reproduction of the patient's symptoms
