Purpose

• Evaluate for pathology of the gluteus maximus muscle

Description

• The patient is prone
• The examiner stands at the foot of the examination table
• They examine the gluteal region, comparing the left and right gluteal bulk
• The patient is asked to contract their buttocks
• Positive test
  • Loss of contraction on one side
  • Sagging muscle
  • Disappearance of the infragluteal fold
