Purpose
- Evaluates for possible compression or entrapment of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN)
Description
- Patient is typically positioned supine[1]
- Examiner evaluates baseline hip abduction strength against resistance
- Compression-relieving interventions may be applied
- including orthogonal kinesiotaping or surgical decompression
- Hip abduction strength is reassessed following intervention
- Positive test:
- Immediate improvement in hip abduction strength
- Reduction in pain or paresthesia symptoms
- Improved resistance during hip abduction testing
