- Intermetacarpal Joints
- Articulationes intermetacarpeae
General
- The bases of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th metacarpal bones articulate with one another
- This occurs at a small proximal surface
- They are connected by dorsal, volar and interosseous ligaments
- Synovial membrane is continuous with the carpometacarpal joints
Ligaments
- Dorsal Metacarpal Ligaments (ligamenta basium oss. metacarp. dorsalia)
- Pass transversely on dorsal surface
- Volar Metacarpal ligaments (ligamenta basium oss. metacarp. volaria; palmar ligaments)
- Pass transversely on volar surface
- Interosseous Metacarpal Ligaments (ligamenta basium oss. metacarp. interossea)
- Connect the contiguous surfaces, just distal to their collateral articular facets
