Purpose


Description

Pronated Hand

  • Hand is resting on a table with the distal phalanx hanging off
  • The finger and the rest of hand is stabilized by the examiner
  • The patient is asked to flex the affected finger
  • Positive test
    • Absence of flexion at the distal interphalangeal joint

Supinated Hand

  • Hand is resting on the table
  • The therapist holds the metacarpophalangeal joint, proximal interphalangeal joint in full extension
  • The patient is asked to make a fist or to flex the affected digit
  • Positive test
    • Absence of flexion at the distal interphalangeal joint
