Purpose
- Evaluate the Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve (LFCN) as a cause of thigh pain
Description
- The patient lays in the lateral decubitus position with affected side up
- The examiner stabilizes the pelvis with the proximal hand
- They grasp the lower extremity at the knee with the distal hand.
- The examiner then bends the knee and adducts the hip in order create tension in the LFCN
- Positive test:
- Reproduction of the patient’s symptoms
- As opposed to feeling tension in the soft tissue structures of the hip
