- Occurs after/during an oropharyngeal infection complicated by
- Internal jugular thrombosis
- Septicemia
- Septic emboli to the lungs
Pathophysiology
- Thrombosis is due to endothelial dysfunction caused by inflammatory factors from the localized infection
