Purpose


Description

  • The patient is supine, examiner standing next to affected side
  • Patient knee flexed to 90°, hip flexed to 70°
  • From this position, maximally abduct the hip
  • Then adduct the hip until it is 30° short of full abduction
  • The hip is then fully internally/externally rotated until a firm end point is identified
  • Then internal/external rotation is performed in a smooth, steady manner
  • Positive test
    • Provocation of pain in internal/ external rotation
