Purpose
- Evaluate the achilles tendon as the cause of the patients pain
Description
- Palpate the Achilles tendon and find tenderness with the knee extended
- Then flex the knee to 90 degrees
- Palpate the tender portion again
- Positive Test
- Reduction/absence of pain in flexion
Alternative Description
- Once the pain is localized, ask the patient to dorsiflex the ankle
- They should then actively plantarflex and dorsiflex
- Positive test
- Pain is worse when tenderness is palpated again
