Description
- External brace designed to support the lumbar and sacral spine.
- Limits spinal motion and reduces mechanical stress.
- Often constructed with rigid panels, straps, and adjustable compression.
- Used to stabilize the lower spine during injury recovery or rehabilitation.
Theory of benefit
- Elevated intraabdominal and intrathoracic pressure reduce the net force applied to the spine during the act of lifting a weight

- Average return to play 5.4 months[1]
- Good or excellent results in more than 80% of subjects
General Low Back Pain
- Lumbar orthosis improved pain intensity, functional capacity at 6 and 12 weeks[2]
- However, authors conclude lack of high quality research, guidelines on which orthotic in which condition
