Medial Cutaneous Nerve of Forearm

Name

  • Medial Cutaneous Nerve of Forearm
  • Medial antebrachial cutaneous nerve

General

  • Sensory branch of the medial cord of the brachial plexus
  • Supplies sensory innervation to the skin of the medial forearm
  • Also supplies skin overlying the olecranon

Anatomic Course

  • Originates from the anterior rami of spinal nerves C8-T1
  • After arising from the brachial plexus, it travels down the medial aspect of the upper arm
  • Courses along with the ulnar nerve
  • Pierces the deep fascia with the basilic vein to enter the subcutaneous space

Branches

  • Anterior/volar: crosses anteriorly over the basilic vein
    • Descends down anteromedial aspect of the forearm
  • Posterior/ulnar: follows medial border of the basilic vein
    • Courses along the posteromedial aspect of the forearm

Clinical Significance
