General

  • Epistane is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS), derivative of DHT that is frequently used for bodybuilding, but is not approved for medical use.[1]

Performance Enhancing Effects

  • increased muscle mass, strength, and reduced body fat[2]

Medical Indications

  • Not approved for any medical use.

Adverse Effects

  • Common side effects include acne, gynecomastia, testicular atrophy, infertility, mood disturbances, hypertension, dyslipidemia
  • Cholestasis, hepatitis, hepatic adenomas, and hepatocellular carcinoma

Mechanism

  • Androgen receptor agonist
  • Has a 2α,3α-epithio (epithioether) group on the A-ring that makes it resistant to aromatization[3]

  • Banned by WADA
