Ostarine
Other Names
- MK-2866
- Enobosarm
- GTx-024
General
- Ostarine is a nonsteroidal selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) developed to provide anabolic effects on muscle and bone with reduced androgenic side effects compared to traditional anabolic steroids.
Performance Enhancing Effects
- Increase physical fitness and stamina
- In Rat models, ostarine has been found to increase muscle mass, improves muscle vascularization, bone healing, and functional performance
Medical Indications
- Ostarine has been investigated for potential therapeutic use in cancer cachexia, sarcopenia and osteoporosis but remains unapproved by FDA for any indication
Adverse Effects
- hepatotoxicity
- sex-specific cardiotoxicity (notably in male cardiomyocytes)
- testosterone suppression
- Tendon injury/rupture
- Myocarditis
Mechanism
- Stimulates myogenic differentiation and muscle cell proliferation via androgen receptor and ERK1/2 kinase activation, increasing expression of myogenic markers (myogenin, MyoD, MyH) and muscle mass in animals
WADA Considerations
- Banned by WADA.
