Purpose


Description

  • Examiner instructs the patient to raise both arms fully overhead
  • Position is maintained for up to 60 seconds
  • Examiner observes the face, neck, and upper chest during arm elevation
  • Positive test
    • development of facial flushing, cyanosis, venous congestion, neck vein distention, dyspnea, or dizziness

Pathology

  • Thoracic Inlet Obstruction
  • Superior Vena Cava Syndrome
  • Goiter
  • Mediastinal Mass
