Purpose
- Evaluate the peroneal muscles for evidence of subluxation or dislocation
Description
- The patient is prone or seated with ankle relaxed
- Ask them to plantarflex and evert their foot back and forth
- Observe for changes in the posterior aspect of lateral malleolus
- Simultaneously, palpate the course of the peroneal tendons
- Positive test
- Visible or palpable snapping of the peroneal tendons
- Reproduction of the patients lateral ankle pain or instability
