Purpose


Description

Supine Description

  • The patient is supine at the edge of the examination table
  • The examiner passively brings the affected hip into
    • Hyperextension, external rotation, and slight abduction
  • Positive
    • Reproduces the patient's posterior hip or deep buttock pain

Prone Description

  • The patient is lying prone
  • Hip and knee are in extension
  • Examiner passively extends, abducts and externally rotates hip
  • Positive test:
    • Reproduction of patients pain
