Purpose
- To evaluate the hip for signs of FAI/ impingement
Description
- The patient is in the supine position
- Patient at edge of table with opposite leg held in flexion
- Affected side hanging freely in full extension off of table
- Affected hip then ABER while extended
- This approximates femoral neck & posterior acetabular wall congruence
- Positive test
- Hip pain
- Anterior instability
- Apprehension to further external rotation
Alternative Description
- Patient is in lateral decubitus position
- Affected hip is upwards
- Fully extend, abduct and externally rotate the hip
- Positive test
- Posterior hip pain
