- Recurrent branch of median nerve
- Thenar Muscular Branch
General
- Small motor branch of the median nerve in the hand
- Supplies the Thenar Muscles
Anatomic Course
- Arises distal to the flexor retinaculum
- Curls around it distally to supply the thenar muscles
Variant Anatomy
- Sub-ligamentous: arises within the carpal tunnel, courses underneath the flexor retinaculum before reaching the thenar muscles
- Trans-ligamentous: arises within the carpal tunnel, pierces the flexor retinaculum to reach the thenar muscles
Motor Supply: Thenar Eminence
