Rent Test

Purpose

Description

  • The patient is seated, arms relaxed with examiner behind patient
  • Examiner palpates acromion with one hand while flexing the patients elbow with the other hand
  • The examiner passively extends the shoulder while slowly rotating into external and internal rotation
  • Positive Test:
    • Prominent greater tuberosity with depression

Alternative Description

  • Palpation of a supraspinatus tear through the deltoid
  • This is accomplished in a relaxed patient at the anterolateral border of the acromion
