Purpose

  • To evaluate the severity of a foot or ankle pathology
  • Can also be used to measure end range strength of the calf muscles

Description

  • Ask the patient to stand on both feet flat footed
  • Then ask them to perform a double leg calf raise
  • Then ask them to perform a single leg calf raise

Lateral Ankle Sprain

  • Positive test can help indicate severity
    • Unable to weight bear suggests moderate to severe
    • Able to double leg calf raise suggests moderate
    • Able to perform single leg calf raise suggests mild
