The Emergency Medicine track includes 1 shift per week at O'Connor Hospital. Both fellows receive extensive, “hands on” experience as a team physician providing care to athletes from all sports at San Jose State University (NCAA Division 1), San Jose City College, DeAnza College, Gavilan College (Junior College), the Bay Area Panthers (Professional IFL), and opportunities to cover local Judo/MMA tournaments. Training also includes: sports medicine and continuity clinics covering all age ranges, local marathon and triathlon event coverage, 1 month rotation at Squaw Valley ski area, monthly journal club, elective rotation, research opportunities, and didactic curriculum and junior faculty experience teaching medical students and residents. There is extensive training in diagnostic ultrasound, ultrasound guided procedures (including 2 cadaver courses during the year) and exposure to regenerative medicine. The fellows also work with a physical therapy sports medicine resident during lectures, journal clubs, and at San Jose State University. This collaboration gives a true multi-disciplinary approach to learning sports medicine
