Purpose
- Evaluate the Medial Meniscus and Lateral Meniscus as causes of Knee Pain
- It is performed in two parts
Description
Steinman Part 1
- The patient is seated, legs hanging off table at 90° flexion
- The examiner rotates the tibial medially and then rotated laterally
- Positive test
- Pain is elicited with medial or lateral rotation
Steinman Part 2
- Palpation the joint line medially and laterally
- Flex the knee while maintaining palpation of the joint line at the point of tenderness
- Then extend the knee while maintaining palpation of the joint line
- A positive test is:
- Tenderness moves posteriorly with increasing flexion.
- Tenderness moves anteriorly when the knee is extended.
