General

  • Small branch of the upper trunk of the brachial plexus with nerve roots from C5/C6
  • After leaving the brachial plexus, it passes anterior to subclavian artery and vein

Motor Innervation

Accessory Phrenic Nerve

  • Occasionally has an anatomic variant accessory phrenic nerve which originates from subclavian nerve
  • Nerve typically joints with phrenic nerve proper to innervate the diaphragm
