Background

  • Typical presentation during cold-water immersion

Pathophysiology

  • It appears to occur secondary to a sudden increase in central vascular volume during immersion,
  • causing acute fluid overload and cardiogenic pulmonary edema

Risk Factors

  • Sports
    • Scuba Divers
    • Swimmers
    • Triathletes
  • Hypertension
  • Fish-oil supplementation
  • Cold-water immersion
  • Intense physical activity
  • Overhydration
