Demonstration of the Abbott Saunders Test[1]

Purpose

  • Evaluate the proximal biceps brachii tendon as a cause of the patients shoulder pain

Description

  • The patient is seated
  • The arm is externally rotated, abducted to 120 degrees
  • Slowly internally rotate the arm and lower the arm from this position
  • The examiner guides the arm down
  • One hand should be palpating the bicipital groove
  • Positive test
    • Pain in the bicipital groove
    • Palpable/audible snap
