  • Accessory Bones of the Elbow
  • Accessory Ossicles of the Elbow

General

  • Rare variants of the bony elbow
  • Some are failure of ossification centers to fuse with the rest of the humerus or ulna
  • Some are sesamoid bones
  • Overall prevalence is 0.77% according to Kunc et al[2]

Ossicles

Os Supratrochleare Anterius

  • Accessory bone of the elbow which presents in the anterior coronoid fossa of the humerus

Os Supratrochleare Posterius

  • Accessory ossicle of the elbow located in the olecranon fossa of the humerus

Os Subepicondylare Laterale

  • Also called: paratrochlear bone
  • Sits just below the lateral epicondyle of the humerus

Os Subepicondylare Mediale

  • Found just distal to the medial epicondyle of the humerus

Os Sesamoideum Tricipitale

  • Also called: patella cubiti
  • Presents as a sesamoid bone within the distal triceps brachii tendon

Os Sesamoideum Brachiale

  • Needs to be updated

Supratrochlear Foramen

  • Small hole located in the trochlea of the humerus

Clinical Significance

  • Needs to be updated
